Andy Ward and Nica Brooke: A fan introduced us musically (you know who you are out there) and sparks flew right away. It’s a fantastic track and took me a while to get the melody just right. I’m very thankful to Andy for allowing a new, more vintage sound to emerge into his house track. A big thank you to Slikk Tim for his bass expertise.

Danny Clark & Jay Benham and Nica Brooke: Andy Ward did me the honor of playing the track, “Another Place” by Audiowhores on his radio show in Spain, The Vocal Booth. Listening to the show was the very talented Danny Clark. He contacted me right away saying that he was sure he wanted me for his new production. He wanted something very unique and at first I was uncertain about what that could be… but as I began to write, it all made a whole lot of sense.

The Inhabitants and Nica Brooke: These very innovative and talented producers found me on Myspace. Their quirky yet deep sound inspired something rather… well, you take a listen and see what you think. I hope you have as much fun as I do riding through the ins and outs of this special production.

Rithma and Nica Brooke: The moment I heard Rithma’s music, I blushed. The blood rushed right to my face and a warmth spread through my body. I knew I wanted to work with him… but it took years of pestering him, charming him and finally bribery to get his attention. But then something amazing happened: We became like brother and sister, he took me under his wing, made me his music partner and led me into his world. He’s the one who gave me my first lesson in producing, introduced me to all his friends in the industry and pushed me to do more. He’s why I have an electronic music career.

Ryralio and Nica Brooke: One of the amazing introductions made by Rithma, Lauris Lee and Karalius of Ryralio from Lithuania asked me to work with them on one of their productions. As well as being talented producers, they are wonderfully nice and generous guys. I recorded their beautiful melody in the hallway of my Sherman Oaks apartment. They asked for some spoken word and I quoted poems by Emerson – but they got back to me and said they didn’t like it. So I just made things up on the spot about my favorite things: Running on the beach, dolphins and the sea. The lyrics were inspired by my experiences sailing with my father. I thought I was being silly, but I guess Lithuania didn’t. It went to #1 in the Summer of 2006 for 8 straight weeks.

Lukas Greenberg and Nica Brooke: Lukas was mentioned to me by one of my fans. I first heard “What a Day” from his Rhode Stories Album and was awestruck. Just to see what would happen, I wrote him an email. To my surprise, he not only responded, he immediately sent several tracks for me to choose from. They were all amazing and it was difficult to pick. Turns out we work so beautifully together he asked me to do four songs to be released on his new album “Prisoner with a Key”. Here is the title song from the album:

Jon Cates and Nica Brooke: I found Jon on myspace and was floored by his work. I sent him a message and asked if we could collaborate on something… anything!! “But it will have to wait until I got back from my trip”, I said. I went to perform with Rithma in the middle of the forest in Mt. Shasta. Right before I went on stage, I met a Dave Lind (dpL). As we continued to talk, I found out that he was Jon Cates’ partner of Cates&dpL, and Jon was in a tent only feet away from me. Fantastic synchronicity. I didn’t get to meet him on that trip, but we met later and laughed about how my friends knew his friends, etc. I love this small world, and Jon Cates.

This was a bit shocking at first because I sound like a black man, but after the initial shock, I wished my voice sounded like that normally…

Jody Wisternoff and Nica Brooke: I have to be totally upfront with you on this: I’ve never released anything with him. He asked me to do some vocals on a few of his productions, I did, he said he liked them and then I never heard from him again. But the good news is that this came to be and I think it sounds really nice… see for yourself. Maybe nothing will ever happen with this track – maybe he thought I was bored and wanted to give me something to do – maybe it’s already released in Somalia and making millions. Whatever the case, Jody is a really nice guy and it was nice working with him.

Audiowhores and Nica Brooke: Great guys, great productions. I’m looking forward to the release and working with them again! They know what they want and get it… that’s why their tracks have that hard-hitting confidence that’s right in your face, like a splash of cold water on a hot day.

Alan Barratt and Nica Brooke: Alan is one of my closest friends, yet I’ve never met him in person. We connected through mutual friends in the electronic music world. We’ve been working together for over 2 years and make amazing music together, but perhaps we make even better friends. I’m so grateful for the inspiration he gives me with his tracks, intelligence, insight, spirit and humor. Thank you, Alan!

Georg Neufeld and Nica Brooke: Another Myspace lucky find. I didn’t know what Georg had in mind for the vocal, so I roughly improvised some things on the spot. I think it took me about 30 minutes to record the vocal and splice together the parts that were on key. I sent them to Georg and waited to hear some direction so I could re-record everything – but he liked it just as it was. His production couldn’t be smoother or more succulent…

Ollie Brooke and Nica Brooke
Nope, we’re not related. My last name is actually Boggs and my middle name is Brooke, where as Ollie is the real McCoy. He so modest about his productions saying he’s “New” and “Just starting out”, but don’t let that fool you. He’s got a beautifully rich style that really blew me away. He found me on myspace and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Jay West and Nica Brooke: I think it took over a year from the time we decided to do a collaboration to the time we made this happen, but it was worth the wait. For some reason, Jay’s tracks really bring out the tough girl in me and I really like it. His work has a quiet, driving intensity that doesn’t have any unneeded extras to take away from his luscious energy.

Tom Blacksoul and Nica Brooke: I have Rithma, again, to thank for this contact. Tom in an incredible producer. I can feel the hundreds of hours he must have put in as I hear his strong and flawless creations.

Aaron Sontag and Nica Brooke: Aaron (a great friend I met through mutual friends) started out this song with haphazardly plucked guitar put through all sorts of effects that bent it backwards, forwards and turned it inside out (which you can hear in the final version as well). It was his “Graduation” song because he had finally learned to let loose, throw everything he’s learned out the window (well, almost everything) and just go for it. He’d never collaborated with anyone before, and he asked me to “be gentle”. That was easy to do with such a fantastic production! I love the feel of this track. It went on to be remixed by Cates&dpL and released on numerous OM Records albums. We’re waiting to hear when the original will be released, but we have a sneaking suspicion they forgot about it.

Da Sunlounge and Nica Brooke: I first met Simon of Da Sunlounge in Lithuania. We were playing the same gig together at Cili Pica, Kaunas. The sound man didn’t arrive until after the doors were supposed to open. We set up as fast as we could and did a quick check… it was the most feedback I’d ever heard in my life, but we had to open the doors. I think my performance was half feedback, but the audience was AMAZING!! They were so forgiving and had enough vodka to help numb the relentless noise. Simon was so supportive and said I sounded really great (which wasn’t true, but bless him) and we made a decision to do a track together. It came out wonderfully thanks to his funky prowess.

Alfred Azzetto, Funktrain and Nica Brooke: Alfred Azzetto wins the prize for being the sweetest guy around. One of the labels that he works with (Reelgroove) approached me on his behalf and a beautiful friendship began. I love the fact that I can tell how ridiculously nice he is just by his little comments on Myspace. And, it goes without saying, he’s an amazingly talented producer to boot. I’ll get one of his productions up here soon. He did a fantastic remix of “Disappointed” by Blacksoul.
